Jacked from Common's Blog

My blog was originally supposed to talk about a lot of stuff I like, health being a major one. From Think Common:

TOP SEVEN FOODS FOR HEALTH AND LONGEVITY

*BLACK RASPBERRIES

*STRAWBERRIES

*BLUEBERRIES

*FLAX SEEDS

*GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES

*TOMATOES

*BROCCOLI SPROUTS

The healthy and nutritious foods are high antioxidant foods, primarily fruits and vegetables. I selected these healthy foods because they contain the most powerful phytochemicals and anthocyanins which illustrate strong inhibition of chemocarcinogens.

Other foods with high antioxidant and high anti-cancer potential include walnuts, sunflower seeds, pomegranates, beets, cabbage, peppers, and parsley. Make your diet strongly cancer-protective and longevity-favorable by including these highly beneficial, nutritious foods.

A good way to think about nutritious food: Produce is the most important health care your money can buy.

Food also has the potential to harm, and these are effective foods for those attempting to die younger. One of my daughters calls this list the Seven Foods of Death.

WORST SEVEN FOODS FOR HEALTH AND LONGEVITY

*BUTTER

*CHEESE

*POTATO CHIPS & FRENCH FRIES

*DOUGHNUTS

*SALT

*SAUSAGE, HOT DOGS

*PICKLED, SMOKED OR BARBECUED MEET

Foods high in saturated fat and trans fat are consistently associated with high cancer rates. Cheese and butter typically contain over ten times as much saturated fat as fish and white meat chicken and turkey.

Salt has been consistently linked to stomach cancer and stroke, even in populations that eat diets low in saturated fat.

Add the carcinogenic potential from heated and overcooked oils (usually trans containing) delivered in doughnuts and fries with the powerful cancer inducing properties of carbohydrates cooked at high heat (acrylamide formation) and you have a great cancer potion.

Needless to say, I advise people to avoid the foods on my “worst list” entirely.

The best foods to eat are the healthy, nutritious fresh fruits and vegetables. By making these antioxidant foods the major portion of your diet, you can protect yourself against cancer and other serious diseases. As you extend your youthful vigor into later years

I like this

I've been kinda slackin on my Bible reading any more, but I caught this and I kinda feel like regardless of where somebody's at in life or what your beliefs might be this is pretty good. I don't have everything figured out, but I feel like love and forgiveness is a must.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)

Watched this last night

Home sick last night and had the pleasure of watching this OnDemand. One of my favorite Spike Lee joints, recommend checkin it out if you're bored or sickly like me. Sidebar IMDB says Spike is working on a MJ documentary to come out later this year. Between that and Mike Rapport's Tribe doc this should be a good year for films. Still haven't seen Mall Cop yet...

This is how its done, on a major major scale. I plan on touching on my personal feelings on the brand if I ever do one of those 25 things on Facebook, I don't know if I'm prepared for the backlash.

Officially on the Drake bandwagon

And the Lykke Li one for that matter. I'm liking rappers going over non-rap beats, see US Placers and the Young Folks freestyle.

Maybe I'll do this when I'm grown up

Jacked from Cliff Notes, I think Jimmy Choos woulda been a better first single but I like this song a lot.

The internet makes for a small world

So I'm beat, about to go to bed and I decide to check the usual blog roll before bed. I go on Ye's blog and see the new post about Ibn Jasper's account of fashion week. I've been on his blog before, anyways a pretty good post about fashion vs hip hop culture and how hospitable the the fashion heads were to them in Paris. I particularly liked the stuff about Taz Arnold, I knew he was real gifted but I had no idea he contributed to 2001 like that. Anyways after reading the post I decided to scroll through the comments which I rarely do. I see a comment made by a user AJ Moye, and yes it's no other than the former IU standout and Ben Adler hero.

sidebar I forgot to shout out Criminology 2 in the previous post and the title track from the new Jim Jones album is exactly what Dame was talking about. That's all the real blogging for me, look forward to more shoe pictures and maybe I'll post this video of Danilo Gallinari (injured Knicks rookie) doing the Shammgod in Summer League.

Actual Bloggin (Kevin Style)

A few things:
The Renaissance Rap Remix is crazy and Wayne absolutely kills, its good to see him getting love from people like Q-tip that made hip hop what it is. Busta and Raekwon sound pretty vintage too, the new Back On My Bullshit might actually be worth a listen.

I love TeriyaKings and I'm glad Big Sean made the final version. The Finally Famous mixtape Brad gave me (and Chad too) is pretty nice. Kanye went in as well, the "I be in Houston like Bobby" is probably my favorite line. I don't know if the Teriyaki Boyz will ever have crossover success in the states but I'll find a way to get my hands on Serious Japanese.

Johnny Flynn is hoopin for Cuse and it's a shame them and Georgetown are blowing it lately. Williams' (of Louisville) pass the other night was crazy, between the legs passes>behind the back passes btw. I'd suggest youtubing some Bassy highlights from Summer League on the C's a few years back.

Kordell Stewart referenced Mystikal on 1st and 10 the other day.

The CDQ of Hot Revolver is awesome. Andy and Ryan put up on the tagged version about a month ago so I already loved it. I don't know how I feel about Prom Queen, but I didn't like Lollipop or A Milli first listen either.

Spellcheck didn't red-line the word "Milli" but it did red-line "Spellcheck".

According to Concreteloop Money Goes is a throwaway from American Gangster. I liked it fine but didn't wanna hear it on BP3.

Lady Gaga in Pontiac?

Stuff I Liked in 2008

Music: Well if you listened to hip hop in '08 or read anybody else's blogs you probably have a pretty good idea of what my favorite rap and pop art albums were. So rather than discuss if I preferred Man on the Moon to Mixtape About Nothing (MotM fyi), here are my other favorite ablums and also top songs all genres.
Albums
in no order
Sia- Some People Have Real Problems
Estelle- Shine
Santogold- Santogold
I bought all three of those albums because I never believe any of my friends will actually download cds by female artists. I'm sure if I listened to the Raphael Saddiq album more it would be on that list and if you count In Rainbows as '08 that goes there too.
Songs:
Its hard to recall what I was listening to back in January 2008 so this list is gonna be pretty rough:
1. Love Lockdown: Kanye West
2. Cyphr- Wale ft. Young Chris, Freeway, and Beanie Sigel
3. Ho is Short for Honey- 88 Keys ft. Kid Cudi
4. Jockin' Jay-Z- Jay-Z
5. American Boy- Estelle ft. Kanye West
6. Lights Out/L.E.S. Artistes (tie)- Santogold
7. Jimmy Choos- Chester French
8. With You- Chris Brown
9. Lollipop Remix- Lil' Wayne ft. Kanye West
10. Hero- Nas ft. Keri Hilson
11. Fried Chicken- Nas ft. Busta Rhymes
12. Pop Champagne- Ron Browz ft. Jim Jones and Juelz Santana
13. All My Life- Jay Rock ft. Lil' Wayne
14. Greenlight- John Legend ft. Andre 3000
15. Check Your Coat- O'Neal McKnight ft. Greg Nice
16. Soon We'll Be Found- Sia
17. Royal Flush- Big Boi ft. Raekwon and Andre 3000
18. SLU- TI ft. Kanye West, Jay-Z and Lil' Wayne
19. Shoot Me Down- Lil' Wayne
20. The Light 08 (It's Love)- Common
honorable mention: Birthday Girl- The Roots ft. Fall Out Boy

Shoes
New Releases
1. Nike Hyperdunk (McFly)
2. Nike Zoom Kobe 3
3. Nike Zoom Sharkley
4. Nike Zoom BB 2
5. Nike Foamdome
I didn't give the Supra Skytop any love because I always thought they were unimpressive in person
Retros
1. Nike Air Pippen 1
2. Nike Air Penny 2
3. Nike Zoom Flight 95
4. Nike Air Flightposite 1
5. Air Jordan 6 Olympic
No love for any of the CDP releases because the quality was really bad for the price tag although I am happy with my 11/12 pack.
